Gerald Broom was born in Walsall in 1944, and on leaving school with just one G.C.E. (in art) found his direction a bit predictable. The early years of his self-taught career were supplemented by many varied jobs as gunsmith, sales representative, rock guitarist and heavy goods driver to name but a few.

In the 1970s he was resident artist at the Bull’s Eye Gallery in Lichfield, and also opened his own gallery in his hometown. A lifelong railway enthusiast and full member of the Guild of Railway Artists, he gained firsthand experience with steam, training as Fireman on the preserved locomotive ‘Princess Elizabeth’. He is also a member of the London Northwestern Railway Society and has illustrated a specialized book on the company.

His other interests encompass all aspects of English history and he lives a relatively nomadic life in Yorkshire, West Midlands and the Cotswolds. He works in all mediums but primarily acrylics and has paintings in collections throughout the UK and USA.
